The bSAFE bFIT! Program for kids uses fun visual food characters called Fitness Pals to illustrate physical activity--yes, foods exercising kids(addressing both physical activity and nutrition concepts with one character)!  For example, the Watermelon Jack, known as the jumping jack, represents the Fruit Group from the USDA MyPyramid and the Aerobic Fitness component of health-related physical fitness. Resources for these tools are MyPyramid for kids (United States Department of Agriculture, USDA), National Standards for Physical Educaiton (National Association for Sport and Physical Education, NASPE), National Health Education Standards (American Cancer Society, ACS), and the Coordinated School Health Eight Component Model (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC).

The nation's concern for childhood obesity is reaching out to those working with children ages 2 through 12.  Early education guides children in the development of healthy habits and lifestyle choices before unhealthy habits are formed.

Two key culprits have been identified as to why children are increasing in size--lack  of physical activity and poor nutritional choices.
