Family and Community Involvement, Curriculum Infusion, Multicultural Infusion, and Inclusion

Family and Community Involvement                                                                         The bSAFE bFIT! Program for kids is designed to encourage persons other than those in a school setting the opportunity to join together in an effort to promote children's lifetime wellness. Families and the community also play a significant role in the wellness of children. Linking schools, families, and the community has proven to enhance educational experiences.  Ideas for involvement are addressed in the Addition Performance Outcomes section of the lesson plans.

Curriculum Infusion                                                                                                        In the school setting, the bSAFE bFIT! lesson plans can be infused in a variety of areas:

  1. Classroom use, physical education, health education, and science
  2. Math, language arts, social studies, music, and art
  3. School counseling sessions, library activities, and cafeteria staff presentations

The lesson plans are best suited for classroom use, physical education, health education, or the science curriculum Physical activity and nutrition education can easily cross over into other subject areas as well. Once the program is implemented within an appointed classroom or subject area, plans can be made for infusion into other subject areas such as math, language arts, social studies, music, and art. The school counselors, librarians, and cafeteria staff are also excellent resources. Ideas are addressed in the Additional Performance Outcomes section.

Multicultural Infusion                                                                                              Lesson plans include ideas that promote an awareness and appreciation of different cultures and backgrounds in the Additional Performance Outcomes section. Along with suggested ideas, Fitness Pals greet in English, Dutch, German, Spanish, Chinese, and other languages.

Inclusion                                                                                                                   Adaptation of the lesson plans to include children with special disabilities and special needs are addressed in the Additional Performance Outcomes section. This section also addresses enrichment ideas for the gifted.
